Before this, I have met few Catholic Bishops. I still remember during my childhood I attended a holy mass celebrated by Archbishop of Medan Mgr. Pius Datubara, OFM Cap. in Kisaran. I received my confirmation sacrament from Bishop of Jakarta Mgr. Leo Sukoto, SJ. I also met with Mgr. Herman Joseph Pandoyoputro O. Carm. during his installation ceremony as Bishop of Malang in Malang, during which I also met his predecessor Mgr. F.X. Hadisumarto, O Carm. In fact I considered myself lucky because Mgr. Herman Joseph Pandoyoputro celebrated a mass to bless my cabinet when I was elected Branch Board President of Catholic Union of University Student (PMKRI) in Cathedral of Malang 1989. I also attended a mass celebrated by the then Bishop of Sibolga Mgr. A.B. Sinaga, OFM. Cap when he visited Malang few years back. I've also received a holy communion from Bishop of Padang Mgr. MD. Situmorang, OFM. Cap. in Jakarta in 1994. I have also met Archbishop of Merauke Mgr. Nicolaus Adi Seputra in Merauke February 2007. And for the last ten years I have met in many occasion with Bishop of Pangkalpinang Mgr. Hilarius Moa Nurak, SVD. I and my family felt the great joy when we hosted him a meeting dinner at my house in Tanjung Uban early 2005 in conjunction with the construction of church of St. John Don Bosco Tanjung Uban Bintan Island in which I was the Chairman of the Construction Committe.

I have also met the then Father Nicholas Chia of Singapore, who now is the Archbishop of Singapore and translated his homily when he celebtated a holy mass before the congregation of one chapel in the outskirt of Bintan Resort during his personal visit to Bintan Island in 2000. But I really felt special and grateful when I met the Nuncio Apostolic, the Ambassador of the Holy See Vatican, to Indonesia Archbishop Mgr. Leopoldo Girelli during his visit in Tanjungpinang to attend the celebration of the Jubilee of 75th Anniversary of the construction of curch of Heart of St. Mary Immaculate Tanjungpinang and ordination of two new Catholic Priests of Diocess of Pangkalpinang i.e. Father Andreas Poldo Situmorang, Pr. and Father Yosef Carolus Setiawan, Pr. in the curch of Christ The King (Kristus Raja) Tanjungpinang. The church of Christ The King has replaced the church of Heart of St. Mary Imaculate (Hati Santa Maria Tak Bernoda) as the parish church since 1996.

I even felt more blessed when the organizing committee asked me to be the Moderator during his dialog with the parishioner in Bintan Permata Hotel Tanjungpinang on Friday 23 March 2007 evening. Although I had been speaker or moderator in many seminars or convention, chairing many big conferences, but being moderator to the Holy See Ambassador was really special one, a memorable one for me indeed.

I really feel lucky and blessed as Catholic. Praise the lord for have choosen and baptised my late grandfather Paulus Sitohang as member of His Church in Samosir Island almost 70 years ago.

Long life the Holy Father, all his bishops and all his priests all over the world. May they all blessed with good health, strenght and always be with the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Mgr. Leopoldo Girelli (in golden robe) accompanied by the newly ordained priest Father Andreas Poldo Situmorang give out the holy hosts to the congregation.

Mgr. Hilarius Moa Nurak SVD put his arm on deacon Andreas Poldo Situmorang head to officially ordain him as new priest of Catholic Church.

Mgr. Leopoldo Girelli put his arm on deacon Yosep Carolus Setiawan head to officially ordain him to become a new priest of Catholic Church.

The two deacons perform another procession of holy ordination as the new priest of Catholic Church before the Bishops and seniors priests.

Before their ordination the two deacons lie face downward as a sign of total loyalty to their Bishop in keeping with old tradition in Roman Catholic church.

Choir From Bintan Resorts Catholic commuity led by Felix Soureka came all the way from Bintan Resort for the occasion.

Guests of honor of the Function for the celebration of the Jubilee were Mayor of Tanjungpinang Mdm. Suryatati A. Manan (left) and Mr. Tagor Napitupulu, one senior official in the Kepulauan Riau Province government, who came as representative of Governor Ismet Abdullah.

All Catholics in Tanjungpinang and its sorrounding areas have one important event to celebrate jubilantly this year: The 75 years Anniversary of Church of Heart of St. Mary Immaculate.

The church, located at the hilly side of the city Diponegoro Street, facing the busy Port of Tanjungpinang underneath officially was built in 1932.

Before Batam city is developed, it was the main church of Tanjungpinang Parish which area of ministry covers the whole region which presently become the Province of Riau Islands.

The Apostolic Nuntius to Indonesia Archbishop Mgr. Leopoldo Girelli is scheduled to arrive in Tanjungpinang on 23 November 2007 to lead the main program of this jubilee celebration which is the holy mass and the ordination of two new Catholic Priests on Sunday 25 November 2007.

The Indonesian ethnically, culturally and religously diversed youths organisations pledged for unity in one nation, one country and one national language: Indonesia in it's 2nd Youth Congress in Jakarta 28 October 1928. This event, popularly known as "Sumpah Pemuda" is considered as one of the most important milestones in Indonesian national movement and fight against Dutch colonial toward an independent and sovereign nation.

All colonials who ruled Indonesian had been trying to divide the nation in order to ensure its control over the vast natural resources of the country.

Because of it's profound contribution to the unity of Indonesia as a nation and country and national language until today, Indonesian commemorates The Youth Pledge every year nation wide. The Government of Province of Kepulauan Riau in colaboration with the Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI) commemorated this event in Tanjungpinang with various programs. Among others is the breaking of the longest Youth Pledge text reading record by 28 young men and women whom all born in the month of October. The new record is recognised by Indonesian Museum of Record (MURI).

The main program for this year commemoration, the first ever held in Tanjungpinang the capital city of Province of Kepulauan Riau, was the Youth Gala Night (Malam Gebyar Pemuda) at Kaca Puri Sport Building Tanjungpinang on Sunday 28 October 2007. The guest of honor of the event were Governor Ismeth Abdullah, his wife who also the country Senator Mdm. Aida Z. Ismet Abdullah and the Mayor of Tanjungpinang Mdm. Suryatati A. Manan. All leaders of Youth Organisations exists in the province were also invited including the Provincial Board of Catholic Youth of Kepulauan Riau which I myself lead.

Aside speeches from Mr. Edy Sofyan, the Head of Youth and Sport Office and Governor Ismet Abdulah, the Gala Night also presented a video clip showing speech by Berto Izaak Doko, the Provincial Board Chairman of Indonesian Youth National Comittee and the photos of activities conducted by various Youth Organisatition in Kepulauan Riau Province including the one from Catholic Youth.

Governor Ismet Abdullah on behalf of the Goverment of Kepulauan Riau presented the fund assistance certificate to each youth organisation amounting of Rp. 5 million each. All youth organisation leaders praised this assistance as a good and positive gesture from government. This certificate presentation showcase the real and genuine support to the existence of Youth Organisations in Kepulauan Riau Province in addition to the support which had been given by the provincial government thus far.

But the most awaited program of ceremony was the performance by Fransisca. Fransisca is one of the finalists of Indonesian Idol who came all the way from Jakarta.

Tambelan islets is the most outer part of Bintan Regency. In fact Tambelan is actually closer to West Kalimantan (West Borneo) than to Bintan Island, where the regency is domiciled. It takes 16-18 hours sea travel by motor vessel from Port of Kijang on Bintan Island to reach Tambelan, while only 8 hours from Pontianak in West Kalimantan. That is why Tambelan people do business to Kalimantan more than to Bintan itself. But the history has seen that despite this geographical distance, Tambelan people associate themself culturally as part Riau Malay than to Kalimantan Malay.

I felt grateful that I finally able to visit this beautiful island and meet with the friendly and humble people of Tambelan when I joined the entourage of the Governor of Riau Archipelago Ismet Abdullah and the Regent of Bintan Anshar Ahmad in conjuction with eid al fitri celebration in Tambelan last week. The entourage was consist of almost 300 people, probably the biggest government entourage ever visited Tambelan in history. The group sailed to Tambelan from Port of Kijang by MV Leuser.

My niece Tio Marasi Magdalena Hutasoit (Lena) is the eldest daughter of my sister Frisda Sitohang and her husband Sabar Hutasoit. Lena came to Bintan in 1999 and started her first job as Caddy at Ria Bintan Golf Course in Bintan Resort. After work as caddy for a few years, she moved to work for Angsana Resort Bintan.

Lena went to India for work in mid 2005. She is now working for Trident Hilton Gurgaon Hotel New Delhi India. When she first mentioned her plan to go to India, I was worried whether it's a right decision. I always think that if you plan to work oversea, you should go to a more developed country. And my perception compare to Indonesia, India is not one. But as Lena was so determined to go, I have no choice but to wish her all the best.

She was true, she is now enjoying work in India together with her only daughter Angel. In her last email, Lena told me that Angel now goes to a kindergarten in New Delhi which uses English as teaching language. Besides that, Angel is also now picking up Hindi.
